Dieting whilst pregnant

Hello lovely ladies!

I wondered if anyone is following a diet whilst pregnant? I tried to stick to Slimming World whilst pregnant with my youngest and fell of the bandwagon - wish I hadn't as I now have 5 stone to lose!

I've been keeping a blog about being a dieting mum and would love to share some recipe ideas with you to keep you on track so you don't become a mummy blubber like me!

Good luck with your post pregnancy weight loss, but isn't it recommended that pregnant women do not diet?

I guess it depends on your definition of 'diet' which will have a lot to do with how your normal diet is. If you trough 4000 cals a day, you could easily go on a 'diet' and consume 2000-2500 calories a day and have loads of healthy stuff.

If you already consume the lower amount of cals then cutting back is not a great idea. This is the prob with our terminology. Eating healthily is not 'going on a diet' but is often lower in cals than a typical day's food.

Yeah, it's the terminology that made me bristle. "Eating healthily" has positive connotations, and that's the advice we get given. "Dieting while pregnant" makes me think of unhappy women starving themselves

Exactly my point! Yet here in the UK we persist in using the words going on a diet to mean eating healthily!

5DollarShake · 22/07/2010 11:48

With all due respect OP, you are persisting on using the words 'going on a diet'.

I would just say 'eating healthily'. Especially in pregnancy.

...Or "changing your diet while pregnant"?

toja555 · 22/07/2010 12:11

I have read that original meaning of the word "diet" means "style of eating", but not necessary eating less. I think it would be correct to call it a "healthy diet" during pregnancy. I am very overweight (BMI 33), have been watching my eating habits quite carefully but probably not carefully enough - have gained 5kg during first 25 weeks of pregnancy. Now I have put myself of 2000kcal diet as want to keep my weight on track without harming a baby.
