About to give birth in Sevenoaks?

I may well be in the wrong place to post here, and/or apologies if i am duplicating any threads as a newcomer, but i am wondering if anyone can suggest where i might be able to find some places to meet new mums in or around Sevenoaks?

We moved here 3 months ago but don't know anyone in the area, i'm due on 17th August with baby number one and feeling a tad lonely to be honest. I've been forced onto early maternity leave because of SPD, but can still get around a bit. Nearest family and friends are 40 min drive away and i'm worried that when husband goes back to work after paternity and the well meaning visitors become less, i'll be wondering what kiddo and i can do together other than feeding/changing nappy.

Any suggestions would be most welcome...?

Thank you! x

Oh, hello, I live in Sevenoaks too . I'm not due until feb though so not up to date on all of the baby groups yet.

I know someone who runs a baby 'sing and sign' club for babies in sevenoaks and can find a web site if you're interested?

I'll keep an eye out here as I'd be interested to see what's in sevenoaks. The leisure centre might do something(?) or I think my local village hall (I'm just outside sevenoaks) does a baby/toddler club thing - maybe see if there's something similar.

There is mumsnet 'local' on this website and it has tonbridge but not sevenoaks, but I'm sure if you can find it, there's lots going on for new mums - sevenoaks has plenty of ladies of leisure so I imagine there are lots of mums clubs!!

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi,

Not in Sevenoaks myself but my sister is and has a DD ages 9 months (we grew up there so I know it well). I think one of the best places to meet mums is the St Nicks Coffee mornings (top end of town oposite sevenoaks school). The NCT runs Baby and mum yoga there which is another place to meet people. She also goes to bounce and rhyme at the local library (although meant to be for toddlers quite a few people take their babies)

Oh and if you're already on maternity leave you could always pop down to a coffee morning at St Nicks (can't remember the day) and meet some mums in advance i'm sure lots of people would happily chat and answer any questions.

Hope you find some things to go to, me and my Sister are both expeciting early next year (her DC2) and I plan to drive to Sevenoaks and go to thigs there.

Thank you both for replying, this whole thing is daunting enough on it's own without also knowing no-one in the area and not having had the opportunity to check the area out properly?

angels1 which is the village hall you mentioned? I am in Dunton Green..

berry i will definately give the st nicks coffee mornings a go..

Good luck to both of you with your pregnancies too, at least it won't be so hot when you get to the size i am!!

thanks again! x

I live in Sevenoaks, moved here last year and love it . I made friends just by going to toddler groups and the library. I have a 2 year old, as well as a 4 month old, so these things have been a life saver.
Lots of the groups stop for the summer, which is a bit of a nuisance, but all start again come September.
There is a nice little playgroup on a Monday in Riverhead-at St Marys Church Hall. 1.45PM-3.45PM, runs all Summer too and only costs £1.
Also one at the Family Church by Mill Lane, near Bat and Ball junction.Loads of room there, and baby weighing sessions with health visitors. Shut until September though.
You could always try CATing me, not sure how it works, but always happy to meet up with you, and give you a bit of tours of things me and my 2 monsters enjoy doing.
I remember how hard I found it when I first moved here.

Palace the village hall I spoke of is Knockholt, so quite close to you. I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe it was in the parish magazine) of a baby and todler group there. The one in Riverhead would be very close though

The sing and sign club if you're interested is here

www.singandsign.com/franchisee_details.php?i=197,Sevenoaks_&_Westerham

although I think they are aimed at babies from about 6 months.

Palace39 · 20/07/2010 18:08

Brilliant thank you i'll have a look at that website...

RNW that's so helpful thank you, i'm going to be a dunce here- what is CATing?!

If you just click on contact poster next to my message, then you should be able to email me if you want to meet up, as obviously I don't want the world and his wife know who I am etc etc

Fear not! I'm also in Sevenoaks and have met lots of new friends since having my first baby earlier this year. You will meet people at every stage (hospital, weighing clinics, doctors, walks in park etc.) if you are prepared to break the ice. Sevenoaks can be a bit cliquey but I've found that people respond if you introduce yourself. Try to get along to Spring House at Sevenoaks hospital as they have quite a lot on there now they are a Sure Start centre. I would recommend any postnatal classes that they offer, especially the first aid ones. Have you been offered the nhs antenatal classes via your midwife? It's worth enquiring if not as I met some friendly people there.

Having said all that I found that in the whirlwind of feeding and nappies it took me a while to actually want to get out and about, let alone have the time to do it. You will get there though!

Good luck with everything.

Palace39 · 22/07/2010 14:04

Thank you all! We've been to the antenatal classes via the midwives but didn't find it a particularly 'get chatting' type of event.

I didn't know that Spring House is Sure Start though so thank you for that, i'll check out what they do.

You have all given me ideas- thanks so much, i'm so looking forward to baby arriving and doing some activities together.x
