I am d-neg and have been told I need anti-d at 28 weeks no matter what and midwife will book appointment with relevant person at my next appointment when I am 16 weeks so I think you need to get hold of your midwife and ask the question (i am on no 1 pregnancy)

nattiecake · 18/07/2010 14:33

am 29 weeks and rh- and no mention by my midwife of anti-d either??

MumNWLondon · 18/07/2010 16:15

Yes, you need during pregnancy, as you don't know whether the baby you are carrying is +ve or -ve.

Either one at 28 weeks or 2 smaller doses at 28 weeks and 34 weeks. Policy varies by hospital.

It was my responsibility to book a midwife appointment at 28 weeks and 34 weeks to have these done. Was also done postnatally as DS2 +ve.

Policy changes over time and also from one hospital to another.

For my first two babies it was policy (two different hospitals) not to give anti-D until after the birth.

For my third baby (same hospital as for 2nd baby) it was policy to give anti-D at 28wks, 34wks, and again after the birth if needed.

This time around the policy has changed again (same hospital as for babies 2 & 3) and it is given at 28wks and after the birth if needed.

The hospital sent me the appointment as soon as my first set of blood tests confirmed that I was Rh-Neg. I didn't have to ask for or arrange anything.

I would definitely check again and make sure there hasn't been a mix-up somewhere.

I discussed this with my midwife, and since i had a jab after the birth of DS, she said I don't need to have the jab at 28 weeks as long as the blood test shows I haven't developed any antibodies (unlikely). However, I have just read that 1-1.5% of women can have silent bleeds from the placenta during their third trimester, which is why they give it at 28 weeks. So why is my midwife saying I don't need it, and why do we need one at 28 weeks anyway if we are given it after birth of previous children?
