Just looking at my notes and at my appointment last week my midwife put ROA what does this mean?

Right occiput anterior - I think! It's the way your baby is positioned and it's good news.

Ideally you want baby to be "anterior" ie. facing your back, not "posterior" or back-to-back which often means a longer, more difficult (and painful!) labour.

It means they're lying with their back facing outwards, looking towards your back on the right side of your abdomen - 'right occiput anterior' I think. It's a good position!

(Mears or Leese please correct me if I'm wrong!)

Oooooooooooooooooo how exciting!!! Megan was posterior and led to excruciating back pain in labour - anything I can be doing to keep the baby ROA?!?!

Don't sit with your knees higher than your pelvis (eg on comfy sofa), down on all fours on the floor is good - as if you were mopping the floor. Basically, you want to keep your abdomen lower than your back, as the baby's back is heavy and will fall into the lowest point.

Sitting astride a chair facing backwards is also a good position.

My ds2 was posterior lie and i had a nightmare labour, with dd i lay over my ds beanbag on my hands and knees.

Should have said this kept in the proper position and my 2nd stage lasted just 4 mins,i went from 5cm at7am to her lying on the bed at 7.05am.so she was defo in the right position.
