Did anyone's waters break in bed?

We've just bought a new matress. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I wonder if I should put more protection on the matress incase my waters break at home, in bed.

We have a regular matress cover on the bed already and in this heat don't fancy sleeping on top of anything 'plastic'.

If your waters broke in bed - did they do any lasting damage to your matress?

MIne broke all over the hospital floor, people were looking at me as if i had wet myself

I woke at 4am drowning in the stuff. The mattress was ruined, it never entered my mind to protect it

Mine broke in bed, but managed to hobble to the loo before doing any damage.

yes but just a tiny trickle. no damage to the mattress

Mine broke in bed but only a trickle.

Mine broke in bed too. IT was a pop then a trickle before I made it to the loo. Made a bit of a mess but nothing major.

I got a sort of incontinence sheet thingy- it was plastic underneath but was soft on top. I was given them but I have no idea where my friend got them from (she's a nurse so that would probably explain it ) I put one on the bed and one on the front seat of the car. It definitely didn't make me feel hot or sticky- it was all pink and fluffy and lovely

What about some of the Pampers disposable changing mats- are they waterproof?

Mine would have broke in bed as it was 3am, but I was on one of my many trips to the bathroom and when I stood up the first bit hit the floor and so I sat back on the toilet and a rush of water came out. Dh put every towel we owned on the bed and even with a sanitary towel on I went 3/4 of the way through the pile by morning.

I did have one of ds's cot protectors on, but it would have caught diddly.

Mine broke in bed and I was very pleased with myself for managing to dash to the loo before making a mess. My smugness was short-lived as it was two more days before I was induced and I spent that time trying to live life as normally as possible with an entourage of towels and binbags to protect car seats, the sofa etc. No one told me that once your waters break you carry on making the fluid until the baby is born. Next time I'd probably sleep in an empty bath and hope the birth quickly follows.

We too have a new mattress, and i'm so paranoid about trashing it that i've been sleeping on a waterproof mattress protector (from Blooming Marvellous, i think) since i was 24 weeks (i'm now 33+3). Time will tell if it's cracked up to the job!
