Just wanted some advice on when it is considered ok to take a new born out?

If the baby was born in hospital, then he/she has already been out! I would say as soon as you feel up to it, and if you don't, send DS. As Eve said, he'll be mobbed, and will lap up all the attention!!!!

i remember asking my midwife this when ds1 was born and she said 'HE can go out anytime, but YOU CAN't'

i think it';s really important to remember that even when you have the easiest possible birth, you have still just grown another human being, carried it around inside you for 9 months and then squeezed it out oif a hole the size of a grape.

i tokk ds2 out when he was 3 days old bt i really felt it agfterwards. i found that my lochia became much heavier and that i actually felt quite unwell.

yo really do need time to rest up and recuperate

It is a good idea to avoid heavily populated areas such as major shopping centres, airports and hospitals if you can until they are somewhat immunised. Although you'll only hear that from health professionals.

PFB was 2 weeks - still can't quite believe I stayed in all that time and didn't go crazy. had lots of visitors - remember the time quite fondly tbh.

Ds was 3 days or something. Wanted to show him off. But most people commented how early it was.

Agree why not take time to rest and recuperate?

As soon as you want to. You don't have to go far!

When I had my first, i remember being told that i should stay in for at least a week. in fact, I'm sure 10 days was mentioned. Ds could go out any time. Tbh, the last thing i wanted to do was go out in my rustling paper knickers- so much emphasis is placed on the labour, that no-one tells you about the rest of the joys post birth brings!!

I had a section with DD, so the choice was taken out of my hands, and it is a good excuse not to feel that you HAVE to go out.

A parent at DD's nursery gave birth one morning, and was at nursery to pick up her other son at 4pm. Whilst on the face of it, that sounded great, it is not like that for most people!! There are a lot of comments on this board about pregnancy not being an illness, but however you give birth you do need to let yourself recover- and a section is major surgery.

As soon as you feel able for it, you can take your baby out. For me, that was about day 6. I had to go back to the hospital for my warfarin check up and was invited to my old lab's Christmas party lunch which coincided - so DS came with me. He was the star attraction!

With my last baby, I was doing the school run before she was even 24 hours old! And that was a hospital birth - DH brought me home at lunchtime and buggered straight off to work, leaving me to pick up the children from school.
