Lazy baby

I am now 21 weeks and 3 days and have felt some movements from the baby, at about 19 weeks I felt flutters and assumed that it was the baby anyway.

However, now I feel hardly anthing from it. Occasionally I think I feel something but I could be making it up just to reassure myself!

I had my 20 week scan and all was fine and the baby was flipping around and somersaulting. So why can't I feel anything? It seems that most people are like "oh yeah, I feel the baby all the time, and I know exactly which body parts are jabbing into me". Is there a reason why some people feel more movement than others?

My DH sweetly says is must be a lazy baby - like mother like daughter. Nice.

I've got one of them! The odd flutter or prod, but nothing like the mad jabs I got from dd - think it's just a relaxes babe and hope it stays that way on the outside! 20 weeks btw. Have you any other dcs? I seem to recall that you get a lot more as the baby gets bigger and starts to fill the space up.

Sometimes the baby is just positioned so that you can't feel the kicks and pokes - maybe it's kicking your placenta for example....?

Do you have an anterior placenta? It should be noted in your carry-around notes somewhere.

Anterior means it's at the front, and this often means less movement is felt.

My placenta is anterior/fundal (front and toward the top of the womb), and I was only feeling small flutters right down at my pubic bone until about 4 days ago (I am 24 1/2 weeks now). I am now able to feel movements through the front too - baby is a lot bigger and can kick harder, even through the placenta now. It's more of a rolling movement under my hand rather than kicky - kicks, IYKWIM, but I'm sure that will increase as the weeks go past.

I didn't feel anything til 21 weeks, and it wasn't til about 32 weeks that I could identify body parts. I wouldn't worry.

i get days where i can feel my baby moving more. it would seem that when i'm really hot she doesnt move much or when i'm having a lazy day she doesnt move much, but when i'm busy and energetic and doing stuff, she likes to do stuff too!

daisystone · 12/07/2010 12:44

oldmum - I DO have an anterior placenta! Just checked my notes. No one explained that this means I might feel less. Who told you about it?

I feel more movements really low down too.
Thanks for letting me know that! I shall ask my midwife when I see her in a couple of weeks as well.

I posted a thread very similar a while ago; anterior placenta's do act like a big cushion, reducing feelings a lot.

Hope this link works...

Thanks - just read the thread. Very helpful. I felt a couple of tiny prods today on my left hand side so she is doing something....

Will speak to midwife about the whole 'anterior placenta' thing.

Thanks everyone

Hi daisystone,

I was told anterior/fundal placenta when I had CVS(had high risk of problems, but all was ok), they were pleased, it means easy access and a safer CVS.

But really - they should tell everyone, it is relevant to how you experience movement - and people are going to worry if things are not progressing as "normal". It would have taken 20 seconds to tell you!

Glad I helped in some small way

Is it first pg? I didn't feel anything til about 23 weeks pg with 1st baby - was getting really worried but when I did start to feel it, I realised I had been feeling these funny bubbles for ages which were movement. All was absolutely fine, and my placenta was posterior - I'm just insensitive! Thought the 'bubbles' were wind! Onto pg #2 now, 24 weeks, and have been feeling proper movements for ages - so each one is different.

But ask MW or GP if you're worried, they can have a listen in and let you know if all sounds well...
