Over the last couple of days I have started to get a sharp short pain in my pubic area when I walk. It stops when I stop walking/sit down, is this part of Bracken Hicks or something I need to check out with midwife ?

Oh I'm around 38 weeks pregnant with backache and it is far too hot.

SPD/ pelvic girdle pain? also, as the baby engages you can get sharp shooting pains

of course, if you are worried, get checked out..

can't believe you are 38 weeks already! how are the birth plans going/doula etc?

I'd say check out anything you're worried about but I strongly remember that feeling at around 38 weeks. They told me it was tendons stretching. Must be such hard work in this heat... keep cool!

Deffo check it out with the midwife. Could be SPD- symphysis pubis disorder, sounds scary but is relatively common, I personally know two or three women who have suffered.

I think there's an SPD support thread on here somewhere, might be worth a look?

Hope you're OK.

This is just how my SPD started! (I'm 29 weeks) I had this dull ache in my pubic area for about a week and then it gradually got worse and progressed into my hips and back. I now walk with a real waddle and for me I found the only relief was rest, I visited the doctors where I was told this was just part of pregnancy and something I would have to deal with but they did give me some paracetamol suppositories but I really didn't like them so I've kept them for emergency!! visited Midwife last week and she didn't seem interested with my SPD just pulled a semi-sympathetic face and carried on! I have been finding some relief with icepacks and a huge maternity pillow that I found in Costco for £10!! I hope it eases for you

Mmm, hope it is baby engaging rather than SPD. I'll ring midwife on Tuesday.

Lulu, birth plans are stay at home as long as possible and see what happens, with fingers crossed.

Doula wise, sigh. Original doula we booked, we couldn't afford so she referred us to a nice student doula who could help us but due to two lots of unexpected vet bills (one set still ongoing) it is looking very unlikely that we'll be able to find even the student doula fees in time.

Just had a pretty rubbish few months for cash flow. She has said she'll take payments later on (very nice lady) but as I am feeling so negatively about this birth attempt, just wondering if the whole support thing is a waste of money, I am highly likely to end up back in hospital after labouring at home for 20/30 hours like last time. But a doula could make a real difference...I just don't know what to do.
