Just that. baby LooL00 was born last wed and I've got fat feet and ankles which are really uncomfortable. I can't find any threads on this, only on pg fat ankles.

Holding the leg out (or propping it up), and circling the foot should help force the extra fluid back into the system!

Hope all else is well with you!

I had that after my c-section but it was connected to my pre-eclampsia,I would get the midwife to check your BP ,where you given iv fluids or anything like that?

LooL00 · 10/07/2010 20:49

My bp is fine and i had a very straightforward homebirth. In fact apart from my fat ankles I'm feeling fine. maybe if i was feeling worse in other places I might not notice them! I'll try some foot circling before I go to bed.

Keep them raised as much as you can, it helps the fluid flow downwards. You should get it checked though.

Congratulations.

I think it's normal to have some swelling in feet and ankles after birth - it's because you have excess fluid which is no longer going round the placenta etc, so you basically have to wee it all out!!! And it can collect round the ankles. Should resolve, but ask your mw if you're concerned.

Oh poo! not what I wanted to read. 39+5 here and hideously swollen ankles and feet, even overnight when the swelling goes down a bit they still feel sore and bruised. was hoping Id sweat it all out after the birth

Igglybuff · 10/07/2010 20:55

Same happened to me. Midwife said it was normal. I weed loads and it went after a few days.

LooL00 · 11/07/2010 10:43

Thanks everyone, i am weeing loads but i'm drinking loads and I thought that was why.The ankle twirling did help a bit too.

After I had DS (over 3 years ago), I had massive ankles and the midwives at the hospital gave me a pair of proper support stockings (came up to my knees). The most hideous things you have every seen but they really did the trick in a couple of days. Not quite the weather for it but why not ask?

LittleNutTree · 11/07/2010 20:20

My ankles swelled up like crazy about 2 days after I had dd - it was horrible!! I was told that it was just due to having extra fluid after being pg. I was just advised to keep them raised as much as possible. I also remember seeing somewhere that drinking lots of fluids can help, although I can't remember why...?
