My DS who's 3.1 has been in pants for 4 weeks now and it feels like an eternety! He's probably had 3-4 days with no accidents within the 4weeks. Some times he seems to really get it and others he just forgets or doesn't want to make time for going on potty.
Wees are generally alright. Though he has just weed on floor while sat eating snack infront of tv. Sigh.
Most days the poo comes smear by smear till 2-3 pant changed I bribe him to sit on the potty long enough for a proper poo to come.
I wish I'd waited even longer to do this as it really feels like its dragging on. Will there be a magic moment when he does 'get it'?

I'd give up for a couple of weeks to be honest. That will let you both chill out about it all. Has he got trained friends a similar age? Maybe spending a bit of time with them he'll decide it's time to copy and join the big boy brigade. When he decides it's time it might work better. Good luck.

I can't really think about stopping now. His nappy is dry in the mornings and although he does take some convincing to go on potty at times it does feel like we're getting somewhere (if slowly).
I'm convinced that at some point he'll start remembering more frequently. I wonder if there's something I should be doing differently to encourage him to train himself. Make using the potty something that he wants to do for him. Because he wants to be a big boy.
Is it just a matter of patience?

If he's at home, leave him with no bottoms on, leave the potty out and stock up on chocolate buttons or similar! My DS is a month older than yours and we've only made real strides this week after a week and a half of bare bums at home - prior to that, if he had anything on he'd just forget/be lazy and go in his pants unless I saw him grabbing/fiddling and plonked him on the potty myself.

Good morning! He had bad diarohea in his nappy first thing this morning and I thought I'd better put a nappy on him if he's got a tummy upset. There was more diarohea 10minutes later but none since and he's still in a nappy and happily doing wees in it. Will put him back in pants after lunch if no more runny poo.
He said earlier,"I'm not a big boy anymore."
I asked him "would you like to be a big boy or are you happy being a little boy?"
He replied, "I'm happy being a little boy."
Was my question overly leading? Does he really not care about being a big oy who wears pants?
This is our second go at training him. Not sure he's really bothered about it.
