Bumbo toilet training seat...

...are they any good? My DD loved her Bumbo seat & she can still (nearly 22 months) fit in it comfortably. She is quite small & I wanted a seat for the toilet that doesn't have a massive hole & is quite supportive for her. Been potty training for about a week, first day with pants all day yesterday went really well. The only review about the Bumbo toilet training seat on Mothercare's website said that the seat split, but all 3 reviews on Kiddicare were very positive! Just wondered if anyone else had used them & what they thought? Any suggestions/recommendations gratefully received!

Hi, we bought a bumbo toilet seat for our DD when she first moved from potty to toilet. DD picked it because it was pink and I thought it would be supportive.

DD really liked using it but it did split badly after a few months (became totally unusable)- she is quite big for her age so at the time I thought it was a weight issue! However, I later heard from a friend that it is something to do with the material not coping well with repeatedly getting wet/drying off etc. I used to wipe it clean daily with a milton wipe so that probably didn't help!

One disadvantage of the bumbo seat is that it quite different from the traditional style seats that your DD is more likely to encounter at nursery, friends houses etc. I replaced DD's split seat with one identical to the one she uses at nursery (for easy home/nursery transition). Having said that, I do think the bumbo seat can be a good 'starter' seat if you are prepared for it to have a limited life span.

Thanks for replying! I think I might get one. DD is very small, we bought the smallest potty we could find & her little bottom still goes completely into the hole! From what I've seen they look like they sort of hug the child so I think that might make it less scary for her. Will probably 'upgrade' to a normal seat after a while as you suggested!

Just thought i'd add, i got one for my ds but he really struggled with it. I could never get him into a position where his wee didnt spray out, and when I tried to 'tuck him in' he said it hurt. Next doors daughter loved it though and has used it loads, so maybe its better for girls than boys!!

I couldn't see this and not post. I got one and it split after two months - completely unusable now. My dd is about average size, not especially heavy. Wouldn't buy again.
