Potty training

Is your child ready for potty training at nursery? Here's the place for all your toilet training questions.

DS has no where near dry nappies from 3-4 hours.

I was reading signs for potty training and one of them was a dry nappy between 3 and 4 hours. This is how frequent we change DS's (2.3) nappy and he is always quite wet and definitely needs a change.

Do you wait until you see dryish nappies before you start or give it a go anyway?

I'm not really bothered about starting potty training but I am getting fed up with my nan often mentioning that I should be doing it now. I have explained that I will wait until he is ready but all she says is "well how do they know" and "my 5 were all done by the age of 2." Its getting annoying.

It's pretty early, I wouldn't worry about it yet (DS1 was 2.10 and DS2 was 3 before they were trained, and they were going pretty long between nappy changes. IIRC, apart from morning and bed, they only needed a change when they had a poo) Conversely, DD was 2.2, but she just upped and started using the potty herself.

In short - no particular age, and it depends on the child. If you're in no particular hurry, I'd wait for the summer and warmer weather anyway.

It's still a bit early maybe? It was about this age that DS started to have dry nappies for about 3 hours (although 4 is a bit optimistic I think)

It's 29mo now, and still not ready for potty training. He's done a week on a potty once, but it'l be a little longer yet.

there's no rush. How old is your nan - did they have washing machines when your nan was potty training? this may explain the early potty training - hand washing terries is no fun for anybody!
