DS will go on potty but not on loo

Potty trained DS a few weeks ago and all going well with wee's (not so well with poos but definite improvement so not too worried).

What I am worried about is he will only go on potty or trainer seat but not proper loo when i hold him and promise i won't let go.

When we go to park, restaurant, other people's houses what do we do? Houses I'll take potty with me however I'm not too keen on taking potties out and about with me as I want him to learn to do it on loo.

So.... I suppose my question is - is this normal? Any helpful hints out there as to how to get him over this?

Thanks in advance

I think you need to take the potty or training seat for a while longer. If you make him do without either, he may decide that he would rather wet or soil his pants than sit on a toilet. Be glad that he is trained!

You can get padded folding training seats which aren't as large to carry around, there are usually a few on ebay.

Thank you girlywhirly
I'll check out the padded folding training seats

Our daughter doesn't like the potty but will happily (but not yet 100% of the time) use an insert for the regular toilet and is actually not always insistent upon that being present.

I agree, its early days still. And the move to the toilet proper will happen in its own time (don't you just hate it when people say that?!) Be glad he's trained!!

My dd was petrified of falling in to a toilet, so we bought her a seat with handles, and she loved it. Now a few weeks later she has no problem on 'normal' seats, and even told me not to hold her while she's on the loo! Unfortunately this means she's holding onto public loo seats, but hand washing is very thorough after those! So, don't worry. He'll get used to it.

Thanks for advice everyone. having only wanted to go on potty we had a break through yesterday when he asked to be a big boy on a big loo - we shall see but am hopeful.

i thought at this age i would finally stop panicking at the first hitch - but oh no

Thanks again
