HELP! DD is scared of using the potty!

I started potty training DD about 10 days ago and she was fine, using the potty without me having to remind her and no accidents, but we were still using pull-ups when out. she had her birthday a few days ago and since then seems to be reaLLY scared of using the potty. when she needs a wee she holds it in and dances around, not wanting to go, gets to the point where she is crying (probably because it is so uncomfortable). the wee then either ends up on the floor or with her sitting on the potty and crying. has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas of what to do?

We've just had this issue with dd without the successful start that your lo had. She can poo on it fine but will not sit down and relax to wee so like yours it ends up on the floor when she can't hold it any longer.

She's only 2.3 years old and as I'm due dc2 in 7 weeks we have left it for a couple of months. Sorry I can't be of more help, but interested to read the responses.

Good luck.

Initially tehre was a fear of using hte potty but I said potty or toilet and he chose potty. Now I offer upstairs or downstairs!take her shopping and let her choose her own potty! seriously, this was a break through for us. Admittedly there were only a couple to choose from but I think he felt that it was his choice. I now have one potty upstairs and one downstairs.

Hi grapes, we had exactly this problem (at 2.11), DS used to dance around in agony needing to go but holding it in for as long as he could, getting more and more upset and then producing the inevitable puddle on the floor.

He was getting so distressed over it that we took the decision to give potty training a break and wait until he was ready to do it...

Amazingly, when he was ready (at 3.2), he literally announced one day that he wanted to go to the toilet, and never looked back.

At the time I was quite stressed over in and wondered what was wrong with him as all his friends had been potty trained since just over 2, but now I can see that he just wasn't ready and it would have been counter-productive to keep going.

BTW when I say not ready, he was definitely capable physically and knew how the whole process worked and what was expected of him, but somehow he was not ready emotionally, IYSWIM.

Good luck!

DP and I have had a thought on this recently - not potty training yet as DS is only 2, but we have discussed how to go about it. We have a potty which DS will sit on when clothed, but not without his nappy. DP reckons it's because he never sees us using a potty, but sees us using the toilet, so is probably wondering why he has to sit on the potty.
SIL has just started trying to potty train her DS (a bit early imo - he's not 2 until July) and says he prefers to wee on the toilet than in a potty - so DP's theory couls be applied there too. I know it's not ideal to cart them upstairs and hold them on the toilet all the time, but might be worth a try with your DD?

thanks everyone!
DD is doing much better this week, she's fine doing a wee but sometimes seems a bit unsure as to whether or not she actually needs a poo! decided to carry on using pull-ups when out because she doesn't know the difference between them and knickers so wont go to the potty if she needs a wee. hoping as she gets older she will figure that bit out by herself.

edwardcullensotherwoman You don't need to hold them on the toilet. I trained my two using a seat with handles and a step, they both managed to get on and off easily from the start.
