I saw on another thread that someone had mentioned the "classic signs" of a child being ready for potty training. What are these signs?? I am planning on starting PT next Saturday but want to know i am reading DD's signals right before i start.....

Some of the signs I was told to look for, and which my DD does, is being able to stay dry for a couple of hours, knowing that she's going to the bathroom (even better- telling you before s/he goes), not liking being in a dirty nappy, being able to use the words for the bathroom (wee, poo, whatever you choose), being able to dress/undress bottom half (although my DD can't do this yet), being interested in you going, being interested in the potty in general. Being out of the "no-to-everything" stage and wanting to please. HTH

IMO, the "signs" are that the parents are ready to tackle it.

The signs we tell parents at nursery to look for are,

As marmum said as well as,
Being able to understand and follow simple instructions,
and having frequent dry/clean nappies during the day,
a possible pattern to soiling e.g usually soiled after breakfast though this isn't essential.

As ches said you need to be prepared and not have any potential difficulties on the horizon for example, a new baby, or house move.

Thanx for that, very useful!

DD can deffo stay dry for a good couple of hours during the day, she tells me when she's done a poo (and i have to change her immediately!), enjoys sitting on the trainer seat on the toilet, knows the difference between wee and poo (although quite often says she's doing a poo when actually she's doing a wee). She seems to be knowledgeable about the toilet department, but her being interested in coming off nappies is another matter - she loves the comfort of her nappy so i think i might struggle a little there.

I am starting her on saturday next week, have cancelled all my appointments next week, including the gym etc and have taken days off work, just so that hopefully we can crack it (more or less!)

Thanx again for the advice!
