£40 for pack of FIVE pants! Seriously? Do we really need them? And if so, where do normal (not stinking rich) people get theirs from?!

You don't need training pants.
Use pull-ups or go straight to underpants.
Buy the cheap ones and throw them away if they get yucky.

bout the same as he price of an all-in-one washable nappy

so not unreasonable for nappies to be used all day every day for a year, but a bit pricey for a few weeks of potty training.

Here's a link to some very expensive pants

Actually I used them and found them quite useful.

Boys tend to dribble a bit (well mine do ) and the waterproof part really helped keep outer clothes dry a bit longer.

DS was about 18months when he became interested in pants so it was a bithit and miss for a while.

I used these for DD last summer. I think I got 3 for £11 or thereabouts. They don't have a waterproof outer but will hold a bit of wee for when they don't quite make it to the toilet/potty. DD wore them to pre-school for a few weeks 'just in case' after we'd potty trained in the summer holidays.
