Hi all, Im looking for some potty training advice from those who been there before.

My DD is 2yrs 7mths and we started potty training a little while ago, she picked up weeing on potty very quickly and used toilet not a potty (she hates potty but loves her special toilet seat) but poos were a whole other issue... she would refuse to poo and stand physically shaking with the need to poo but no matter what wouldnt let herself do one, no accidents until bathtime then she would go in the bath (not nice)

We had a leak at home (not water turned out to be sewage) and we had to leave. Now we are living with my parents and get keys to our new home in three weeks (has been a long and stressful time) and the potty training been pushed on back burner... anyway sorry for babbling on my q's are...

Should we try and get back into potty training now or wait until new house?
How can we tackle to pooing problem?

She is really good with wees and has excellent language skills etc so I do think shes ready... just need to tackle our poo issue. She starts nursery school in sept and we are due another baby in June so I would like to get this done and appreciate any advice x

Hi. Sorry to hear you've had a stressful time, hope you enjoy your new home.

When you say potty training put on back burner, presumably you mean dd went back to nappies? If so, then just treat the next time you feel you are both ready to give it another go as a completely new try and you may well be pleasantly surprised at the results. At your dd's age, their development is so rapid that even a few weeks can make a huge difference. Try to be chilled (easier said than done I know) and not to worry about the pooing.

When I was trying to potty train my dd, I got really quite stressed, as like you, I had baby No 2 well on the way. My plan was to get dd out of nappies before ds was born but it just didn't happen. I left it at least 3 months after ds was born and still a bloody disaster, tried again six weeks later and she was clean and dry in 3/4 days.

Masses of advice out there, but from my experience, if you are stressed, they definitely pick up on it.

Last bit of advice is - when you decide to give it a go, don't swap and change between pants and pull ups/nappies - bite the bullet and you'll be better off in the long run.

All the best and I hope it goes ok.

Thanks for the advice hun, she keeps asking to wear knickers so think we are gonna go down that route totally and use pull ups for nights and her daytime nap.
Thanks for the advice x
