Strange poo habit

My son 21 months has a strange habit before doing his poo - he would say poo, wee in his potty, before getting up and running frantically up and down without pants, then sits down on potty again, gets up, runs.. you get the picture.

We tried not to take notice initially because it is so odd. We made him just sit on his potty. As a result, he got so badly constipated he was sent home from nursery one day, we had to visit the doctor and I spent three days nursing him back to health, as he was practically like an ill child with it. Now we allow him to have his poo-ritual and it's really helped. We do not get any poo accidents at home now or even when we go out as long as we find a big enough toilet for him to run round, though he still holds his poos at nursery and sometimes just does it in his pants, because nursery will not do this with him. Understandly so, as it is such a strange habit. Anyones else with strange experiences like this?

We're also not doing that great with the wee. If DS is with me all day, he does really well, he would tell me when he needs to go and if he hasn't been for 2 hours I would just get him to use the loo with me. But when DP looks after him, he sometimes leaves DS in wet pants for 10 minutes or more , and DS's potty training is ruined for the day. He would then just wee in his pants all day long. Even though his nursery is brilliant, we suspect they are probably very busy so there is no way they would change DS's pants straight away either, especially if it's a small accident and it's not visible. So now after 5 weeks of slowly getting used to sitting in wet pants (when not with me), he seems to now be quite happy with wet pants, whereas he use to tell me "Wet! Wee wee" even if he's only had a little drop of accident. Finally, DS also talks to me and tells me things, e.g. "wee-wee", "poo-poo now", but refuses to tell DP and nursery. How do we crack this? He goes to nursery most the week so I cannot think of a solution.

Hello, not sure about the poo habit, but if it works, then carry on. Have to say, I didn;t start DD with the training til she was over 2 so it may be that he just isn't quite ready to do this with everyone yet?

Sorry, don't really have much else to say or help to offer.

Actually, thinking about it.. DS does tell hubby, as I overheard last weekend clearly but not very loudly my DS saying 'wee-wee'.. and then 'wee now'. DP took absolutely no notice and continued doing what he was doing. I went to him and asked him why he's not taking DS to potty, and the answer was that he didn't know what DS was saying. So perhaps others aren't understanding him?

It's just extremely frustrating because DS is ready to be potty trained but due to my work commitments, I can't just devote a week or two to him, resulting in so many accidents and potential having to go back to nappy, which we're seriously contemplating. We've been through quite a bit but DS currently loves his underwear(nearly threw a tantrum as I wouldn't let him wear underwear to bed) and enjoys potty training. I especially love the big smile on his face after his little poo-habit, as he points to the potty/toilet and shouts "poo [in] potty, yea!".
