she's been dry in the day for well over a year and has just turned 4 but is very seldom dry after a full nights sleep. as a result she's still in pullups every night. i wantefd to see if she could go 2 or 3 nights in a row without wetting before i left the nappy off esp as we've just had a new baby and i could do without having to change dd1's sheets and duvet at 3am. i do worry that i'm leaving it too late however and i'd like her to completely dry at night before she starts school in september. any ideas?

Leave it as you've just had a baby. Sleep wetting is not within normal control as daytime awake wetting is, you will need to wait until she starts producing anti diuretic hormone which regulates urine production, It is very variable when this happens, it is not unusual for many children to still be wet at night at 7. Dr won't treat children for enuresis under 7, so it's just wait and see with a waterproofed bed and child! Even waking a child to go to the loo when you go to bed won't always keep them dry the rest of the night.

I was just about to start a thread with the same problem - DD1 was dry at night before she was 3, but DD2 was 4 on Tues and is still in pull-ups at night.
I've tried putting her to bed without, but she wees in her sleep and doesn't wake up til morning - by which time she's only slightly damp! A friend of mine has just got her daughter dry at night at 6, so I guess it's a case of wait until they're ready... I think so long as they are fine in the daytime, no-one at school will be any the wiser!

In my children's class, about 50% of them were still in pull ups in reception/Year 1, and lots even at the end of Y2.

thx totalmisfit, i was wondering about this myself. DS 3.5 is dry day but shows no signs of ever being dry at night. We just keep on with the PJ Nappy pants.

Thx Gorlywhirly too i didnt know this at all.

girlywhirly is right, you just have to wait for them to be ready, you can't train for night dryness

10% of 5 year olds are not dry at night
5% of 10 year olds are not dry at night

very few parents will discuss it at the school gates, but it doesn't mean it's not happening

This has been so useful - my DS is 5.5 and still not dry at night and showing no sign of being dry at night! If I don't put a pull up on him, he will wet the bed but doesn't wake up!! I have been getting quite concerned. You are right bumpybecky no-one talks about it at school and you begin to think that your child is the only one

The only thing that helps it is increasing the amount they drink during the day as that seems to encourage the production of the hormone that concentrates the urine at night. I have 4 dds 3 were dry easily by the age of 3, the other one was 7.
