DD absolutely HATES pull ups - What to do?

I thought life would be easier when nearing potty training time if DD got the hang of "pants" going up and down so i bought some pull ups for her (she's 2.3). However she absolutely hates them and cries when i put them on her. I feel at the moment that she will always be in nappies because she doesn't really like nappy free time and will only wear her little knickers for about 5 seconds before wanting them off and wanting the safety of her nappy again.

I really cant remember how i did it with DS (it was 20 years ago!) and i'm pretty sure we didn't have pull ups back then either!

Shall i just give up on the pull ups idea, as i'm not sure they help matters anyway as surely the child gets the idea that it's ok to wee/poo in their "pants" as such?? Shall i just go back to nappies, mention no more of potty training until perhaps the summer??

Any advice on how to approach potty training would be fab! Thanks in advance!!

Good idea to wait until summer, sounds like she's not really ready. Don't give her negative connotations

Yes, yes and yes! Go straight from nappies to pants, but makes sense to leave it till the summer as she's still very young.

The later you leave it, the easier it will be.

we tried ds in pull ups once when he was about 2 I think - unmitigated disaster.

He got to 2y6/7m and just started asking to use the loo and we've never looked back (for pees anyways!!)

Yes I would. Forget it for now and have another go when it's warmer.

Maybe she feels a bit cold and vulnerable atm in just her pants. When it's warmer it might be more appealing to her cos it'll feel more cool and carefree and any little accidents will be quicker and easier to manage.

My dc didn't get on with the pull ups either. They look like a nappy but you take it on and off. It confused them I think and because it's thick they weren't too sure if they were wet or not.

I just left the whole thing until they were older and the weather was nice and went for it then.

I waited with dd to potty train til 2.6 despite the fact she was occasionally using a potty from 1.10 - and went straight from nappies to pants. She did have pull ups at night time for the months after she was dry in the day because she said she was too big for nappies but not for any other reason.

Thanx for your wise words everyone. She put the pull up on willingly in the end as i told her that we had no more nappies til i got to the shop and after 5 mins of a bare bum in this freezing house, she happily stepped into it lol. However i have taken your advice and have magically found a stash of nappies () and showed them to her - her face lit up and she said "nappies!! Yaaaaay!!". lol!!
