My 3.7 year old DS has been toilet trained for about seven months and at school he usually manages to go without any accidents. However, at home he is often damp or slightly wet whenever you ask him if he needs to go for a pee. He mostly says he doesnt need to go when you remind him and then when you make him go he is wet. He is very aware that it upsets us although we try unsuccessfully to react negatively. I am worried that despite seeming ashamed or upset when he does it he still does it! It cant be a medical problem as at school he is mostly ok. Not always but much, much better than at home. HELP!

sorry I meant to say we tryNOT to react negatively but it is really frustrating as we try to remind him and he is adamant he does not want to go and then 5 mins later is damp.

Hi Abena, my DD is now 4.5 and we have finally got her a referral to an eneuresis clinic (not sure of spelling) as she has damp knickers at least a couple of times a week. Like your DS, she is fine at school, goes through good periods when no accidents, and has been tested for UTIs and is fine. I've found a good website run by an organisation called ERIC.org.uk all about childhood incontinence problems. Reading it, it seems that if child is not dry (day or night) by age 4, there could be a problem of some sort and should be checked out. So maybe give it a few more months and see if it improves, since he has only been toilet trained for 7 months (my daughter has been toilet trained for over 2 years, so this has been going on for quite a while - frustrating indeed!)

My ds (3 years 2 months) is exactly the same. At home he often dribbles but at nursery he seems to be dry. However, I wondered if this was because in nursery he is more willing to go to the loo when reminded by staff and also because he is less tired in the morning than the afternoons.
