Introducing Potty - Not Training!

Hello,
My DS is 2yr 2 months and, while I do not want to start potty training him (he's not ready) I would like to encourage him to sit on a potty at certain times - first thing, when I go to the loo, before bath etc.

Is there any point at all me doing this if I don't want to start training him yet? I would, in an ideal world, like to have him dry before he starts pre-school in September - so is introducing the potty now just too early?

i do not think its too early to introduce a potty..we introduced to DS at 9mths (after lunch and before bathtime). He is now nearly 15mths and more often than not he poo s on the potty, or has a pee. We make it fun, he sits and reads etc, but he lets us know if he is not interested and we don't force the issue. good luck

Not too early at all, I think it is a huge help if they get used to the potty a bit before potty training proper. I would start with a couple of set times a day (when he gets up, after lunch, after nap and before bath). If you are lucky and catch the odd wee or poo (with huge reward and praise etc) then that might really kick off potty training properly.

We bought DD1 a potty when she was around 16 months old, and at first she was quite scared of it. But now (she's now nearly 2) she knows what it is, and is happy to go and grab it and sit down on it with no nappy on. She hasn't managed to produce anything on it yet, but we do sit her on it regularly to see if she manages anything!
