wandering willies

my ds is dry (nearly 3). However, he has started to hold onto his wees rather go when he needs one. The result is that when he sits on the toilet he is so desperate he is totally unable and refuses to push his willy down and he sprays all over the place. Even if he is not desperate and I make him go, the same thing happens. I have invested in one of those toilet seats with the integral child seat so fear of falling isn't a problem and he has both hands free.

Has anyone got any advice, I am so sick of clearing up wee off the carpet, walls, toilet and clothes. Should I just encourage him to wee standing up or just make him use the potty until he's a bit more 'capable' of pointing his willy in the right direction? At what age should a boy be able to aim?!!

Unfortunately, I reached the end of my tether today and shouted big, big time. I find it so annoying because he never actually has accidents in his pants.

please post your advice, thanks

I am going to break it to you gently - they never learn to aim it straight. It just gets closer to the mark. until they get old and it goes off the mark again.

Ds' willy control improved when he learnt to wee standing up and is generally capable of getting wee into the toilet. Except on those occasions when you are late or half asleep when you get a nasty shock...

Wait til you get to the flush loo/toilet seat down issue

Ali4cotswolds · 26/01/2010 18:52

you could try putting a table-tennis ball into the loo for him to aim at (will work betterwhen he's standing up to wee). It'll get 'cleaned' every time you flush the loo.
Good luck

Ha! Lol wherechaos... I think I'm going to have to chill out a bit!! I like the table tennis ball idea, thank you. I guess most young boys like a game where balls is concerned!

Ha ha ha ha ha my DH apparently still can't pee straight and he's nearly 35!!

ziggyf · 03/02/2010 14:51

And yes, you could try getting him to pee standing up, it did make a slight difference to my little boys aim.

Final post from me lol - i've got a few of those mats that go round the toilet, they catch the worst of the spillages x

i haven't got a boy but my little brother learned to pee standing up from the start, first with mum holding the potty up near his willy, then the potty on a little step, then when he could reach, into the toilet.

he did dribble a bit but never sprayed the bathroom.
