Lifting 5YO DD finally results in dry nights. But how to help her do it herself?

After resisting 'lifting' for a long time, I decided to give it a go. DD never has a dry night and sleeps so heavily that I can't imagine her waking up to take herself to the toilet.

We have got her out of bed when we turn in every night for almost two weeks and it has resulted in dry pull-ups almost every time. DD is thrilled and I am relived to see some progress. But even though she responds to the instruction to get up, walks herself to the loo and seems to interact, she has no recollection in the morning of having got up.

So I am wondering, how do I go from here to her waking up of her own initiative to pee? I couldn't go myself from 7.30- 7am without visiting the loo- if the same is true of her, how can I train her to wake herself up?

i did this with my ds for about a month at the same time everynight. it eventually became routine and after that he started going himself, we did have a few accidents but he now goes on his own, although most nights he doesnt need to and sleeps right through.

Hi DLI, thanks for your reply. Did your DS wake up properly when you lifted him? I am wondering how DD's body will learn to do it herself when she seems to be walking in her sleep.

I am very encouraged by your story, you must be very pleased with your DS

ds was not awake when we took him and like your dd he was a heavy sleeper, he also has special needs. your dd will get there in the end, i know it seems like it will take forever but its surprising how it just clicks into place.

Been lifting my 5yo dd for about 5 months now. The amount of wee produced is steadily dwindling - thus her sleep hormone must be finally doing is thang. Hoping we can stop soon - but not confident yet. She rarely wakes herself to pee - if she does she ends up in our bed!
