Any tips for getting a just-trained toddler's poo moving?

Never had any problems with constipation when he was in nappies, so I know it is in his head.

The problem is that he can go sometimes 3 days without a poo, and when it comes it's so big and solid that he is bleeding a lot from the straining and it's causing him quite a lot of stress.

I'm doing all I can think of to keep things moving - he has muesli or branflakes for breakfast, granary bread, big glass of smoothie in the morning. He is generally good with his fruit and veg.

Is there anything else that I can be doing? I'm thinking prune juice etc!

Was going to suggest prune juice when I read the title!

My ds is the same, btw. Eats tonnes of fruit and drinks plenty, but I think he is still adjusting to the whole thing.

Maybe you could read books togather while he is ont he loo to encourage him to have a more frequent try?

Well if "he is bleeding a lot" I would be asking the GP for advice or putting him back in the nappies until he is ready.

I did wonder about going to the GP.

I can't put him back in nappies, he's been completely dry and clean for about 3 months.

Perhaps I'll go back to potty-training bribes - a little bag of sweets for every poo he does. Might encourage him not to hold them in.
