Ahhhhh, HELP! My daughter is 21 months, and I started potty training her a couple of days ago. First day she did really well, 2 wee's in the potty and 3 accidents. Second day 1 wee in the potty, many accidents. We are now on day 3, and for the first day she is at home with me, rather than in nursery. I have just found out I am pregnant with no 2, so had a doctors appointment this am. Told DD that we're going to the doctors. Keep asking her if she needs a wee, she answers no all the time. She wets her pants while we were in the waiting room. No problem, I'm just about to change her and my appointment comes up. So in we go with wet pants and trousers. Tell the doc I think I'm preg and by the way I'm sorry but we've just started potty training and had an accident. So I start to change her on my knee and he gets really @rsey with me. Pants were wet not dirty. Hauls me out for putting over pants on floor (OK maybe I shouldn't have) and goes on about having a proper baby changing area which should be used. I come out feeling really upset. Don't know whether I am being unreasonable because I am preg or is it normal to expect this much of a hard time when potty training, have I broken some rule unknown to me? Now DD wont even sit on the potty for me and I don't know what to do, preserve through the washing or just give up? Any help would be gratefully accepted!

Note- DD does show other signs of being ready, v talkative "weewee, poopoo and trumpy", likes to play at "nappy changing" her dolls, comes to ask for her nappy change sometimes. BUT seems completely NOT bothered about being in wet pants!

You poor thing, ignore the doctor, it is so hard to get things right, and when you have a toddler in tow nothing is ever simple, it can be really tough when you first start potty training. Don't give in yet, she is making some headway and if she is showing signs that is good. If you give up when you have some success it could be harder next time.
I gave up with my DD as I really didn't think she was ready and her communication was nonexistent, but your DD sounds different. Don't stress about it as will stress her and good luck and congratulations on the baby

Thanks for your words mad hair girl, I will persevere. Was a bit confused as to why she goes at nursery and then not at home but I'm thinking that it's probably peer pressure, having read some of the other threads.

I did it slowly with ds at just under 2 but used pull ups until he was reliable at staying dry - I took him to the toilet regularly too. Once he started telling me he needed to pee/poo while wearing the pull ups I put him into pants. He was out of nappies by the age of 2.

p.s. I would probably have waited until after the appointment to do the change of clothes.
