Has anyone ever had a child who has excellent bladder control and yet STILL wees everywhere but in the potty?!

Am reaching the end of my tether here. DS has been potty training for about a month now (he is 2.9). No problems at the CM's house and he poos on the potty fine now. But when it comes to wee, he will just tell me that he doesn't need to go every single time I ask him and then wee on the floor a few minutes later. He doesn't appear remotely upset about it.

He can hold it in for hours - basically will not wee at all if we're out so there's nothing wrong with his bladder control but he is adamant he doesn't need a wee when we get back. I've tried telling him he's got to sit on the potty regardless of whether he wants to go if we've been out for a while but he just screams and fights me off. Also, because he doesn't wee during the day, he's soaking through his night time nappies which means tons of laundry which is not helping my humour either.

Shall I just give up and put him back in nappies?

Will he go on the toilet instead?

Put a ping pong ball in there and get him to try and hit it. He may need to stand on a stool.

Is he drinking enough? He can obviously hold for hours but that isn't healthy and may mean that he isn't taking enough fluids in - he ought to be weeing every 3 hours or so. That will also tone his bladder so it sends a stronger signal to the brain that it needs emptying.

Ooh I don't know if he'd wee in the loo - haven't even tried that! Yes that is a good point re the not drinking thing - he doesn't seem to be drinking as much and I know that trying not to pee isn't good for you. Hadn't thought about the toning bladder point.

Thank you - I made him wee in the bath tonight standing up and he was quite interested in that so the loo thing might be the fun angle he needs.

I think some children are just very resistant to potties - especially at nearly 3 because they are getting a bit big for them; especially boys who can pee over the top!

If you can get him to have a drink (about 200-250mls) every 2 hours then he will make plenty of urine that he just can't hold onto indefinitely. Then point him in the direction of the bathroom and see how he goes
