Dont know what to do. she will pee no problem but refuses to poo, to the point of shouting for a nappy and jumping about in discomfort. Gave in today and gave her a nappy, she poo'd straight away. I couldn't bare to see her this distressed. Any advice?

WE HAVE THAT PROBLEM TOO. ITS FRUSTRATING AND POTTY TRAINING IS GOING SLOW BECAUSE OF IT. WE ARE STARTING A NEW APPROACH TODAY, WHERE POTTY TRAINING IS MY SONS RESPONSIBILITY. HE CHOOSES POTTY OR NAPPY AND PANTS OR BARE BUM BUT IF HE CHOOSES PANTS AND POTTY HE GETS A STICKER AND LOTS OF PRAISE. WHEN IT COMES TO A POO WE PUT A NAPPY ON HIM, IT WILL COME WITH TIME AND I DONT WANT TO PUSH IT AS IT CAUSING CONSTIPATION.

i was very evil and refused the nappy. She pooed in the potty. I gave her sweets. This was not fun. you have to be very definite about it - even when they are getting upset because they aren't convinced its ok.

however she got it after there, and has been pooing in the potty for the last few weeks (after several months of weeing in it, but only pooing in her bedtime nappy)

totally worth it in the end - she had started removing nappies and smearing poo eveywhere (and getting bad nappy rash when too sleepy to do so). No more.

A friends son had this problem at 4.
I looked after him one afternoon- he wanted a poo,and I put him on the toilet. He wanted a nappy- I told him his mum hadn't brought one and he'd have to go on the toilet.
Yes he cried- but when I said he'd be missing out playing with the other children if he didn't get on with it, he did it.
Never did it in a nappy again.

I think this is a sensitive issue and needs careful handling; you don't want to traumatise a lo in the process of potty/toilet training. Go at the childs pace IMO, rewards are all well and good until you don't reward any longer and then problems may start.

Good luck.

DID IT, YES! so proud. after nearly 4 mnths potty training my ds is happy to do a poo on potty and is also dry for car journeys and asks when he needs a wee when we go out. it all came together in 1 week so everyone please keep going, you can do it!
