DS only knows after he's been

DS is 2 1/2 and keeps wanting to potty train (taking off his nappy & refusing to put it back on, talking about potty etc). But when I try him in "big boy" pants, he just has accident after accident - he just doesn't seem to recognise the signals.
Do I carry on? or accept he's not ready? I do ask him regularly, and ask him what he'll do if he needs a wee - he answers fine.

Ds (now 4.5) had a very long period where he could only be dry if he didn't have anything on his bum, it was like he could remember he wasn't wearing a nappy but a pair of pants felt more or less the same to him. If you don't mind him running round with a bare bot at home, this is what I'd suggest to see if it helps.

hmm
he sometimes is naked, doesn't sem to help
plus he is obsessed with sticking his hand up his bum as far as it'll go

How long have you tried for at a time? ds2 was def ready to potty train (is just 23 months) but we've had 2 wks of accidents before its clicked. The key for me was giving it a good run - I decided at least a week and making a note of every accident, if I started to get more in potty than off then I'd carry on. Having wee running down ds's legs seemed to be the final missing piece in puzzle for him. We did timing as well to start (and still do to some extent) potty when leaving or arriving somewhere, if he hadn't been for hour or so taking him to potty and suggesting it, before and after meals.. I never make him sit on if he doesn't want to but sometimes taking him seems to remind him he does want to go, bit more labour intensive than waiting till they are 3 but imo worth it not to be changing nappies

also if don't like butt naked idea then going comando might help but tbh just go for pants, did ds have cloth nappies? if not the trainer pants are good - mine just found they felt like cloth so more likely to wet them

too early, I reckon.
stop and leave it a couple of months and then try again but when you do try again, don't stop, you'll have to go for it next time or he won't know it's a definite end of nappies.
ds 1 did exactly the same and so we stopped potty training and within 2 months, tried again and he clicked with it. Just needed the extra time to twig and recognise the feeling ahead of it happening!
