Well, we decided to start PT on Saturday with our 2.9 year old daughter.

Saturday and Sunday we had several accidents and several successes.

Monday she did well, taking herself to the potty and wee'ing, though when her grandparents visited she wet all the time and refused to sit on the potty.

After they went she went behind the curtain and wee'd and poo'd on the floor.

Was ready to give up, but today has had no accidents and took the travel potty to the school (to pick up older child) and she successfuly wee'd in her potty in the playground.

No poo's today though (she's never poo'd in the potty).

Every time she uses the potty her knickers are damp so I change them though only a dribble.

Just want some support/advice.

Is she about the right age?

Thanks!

Matilda

I don't know I just went cold turkey and made them use the toilet no potty!

I found putting them in leggings was good because it helped asorb any accidents.

I also didn't keep reminding them/asking them about whether they needed it.

2.9 is about the right age but I think there is an element of whether they're interested/want to IYSWIM.

Stickers are good!

Sounds all pretty normal to me tbh. My DD was 2.6 when we started, but we had several relapses for a yr (this did include the arrival of DS which was bound to upset things a little).

Keep going, sounds like your doing fine (and more importantly so is she). Have you tried a star/sticker chart? Worked a dream with DD who is always a sucker for a sticker for work well done.

Always try and remain calm, congratulate like a maniac when she wees/poos in the right place and get lots and lots of spare pants and wipes to hand.

BTW - my DD always preferred to poo on the toilet at the beginning. No idea why though.

sounds like she's doing brilliantly!!! Keep going, she's clearly 'got it'. Give it two weeks, and expect LOTS of accidents, they should start to calm down after 2 weeks ime, but not completely for longer

Thanks for your kind encouragement! I need it!

Grandparents told me off btw saying she is too young but I think she is showing good signs of being ready.

Just a bit nervous of when/where the next poo will appear but will deal with that tomorrow!

Will keep it going and may get her a sticker chart too.

Thanks!
