DS leaky nappys at nighttime

DS (2y9mo) been dry during the day for months and is excellent with going to the loo. Nighttime another story.
Almost every night we have to change sheets and pjs half way thru the night.
he goes for wees before he goes to bed.
we have tried lots of different size 5 & size 6 nappies...but all seem to fail us at some stage.
anyone got any bright ideas - have not tried lifting him at our bedtime yet, mainly cos i am pg with dc 2 and also cos have heard people say the lifting idea just creates more probs in long run.
anyone any views on most absorbant nappies ?
or another way round the problem ?

yes, nearly bought some of the bed liner things and then stopped short of that cos i thought i would still have to change pjs and nappy...even if sheet stayed dry

Could you try adding a wrap designed to go over washable nappies over the top of the disposable one? I did this for a while when DD seemed to be leaking in hers at night (due to sleeping on her tummy). Or what about 2 nappies - say a pull-up first then a larger 'normal' nappy on top?

Does he drink a lot before bed? DD has been dry during the day since August but still wears a pull-up at night. She usually has a beaker of milk before bed and the nappy tends to be quite full in the morning. On evenings when she hasn't had milk (like last night as she is full of cold and the milk tends to make her vomit in bed) the nappy is much drier.

he does drink quite a bit. still loves his milk before bed. but we do make sure he wees before going to bed.
i was wondering about those wrappers for re-usable nappies. might give that a go if all else fails.
tried 2 x nappies before but were of same size, so prob not ideal

ds was potty trained at 20 months, we had same issue at night but ended up limiting milk to downstairs before 6pm (in bed by 7pm) was few nights of hell whilst he adjusted to new routine, was better but still damp in early hours and would get out of bed to come and tell us ended up lifting him when we went to bed, he's almost 3.5yrs now and we still get him out of bed and take him to the toilet in evening - no real plan on that, just works for us now, guess at some point we'll have to stop doing it but seeing as we're up anyway it beats being woken up in night (have ds2 almost 2yrs and ds3 5 months so sleep is everything! )

fwiw all of mine have been in cloth nappies, extra wraps and boosters did nothing for the leaks
