We were in Ikea yesterday and bought DD (19mth) a potty, just cos it cost peanuts & we thought we'd need one sooner or later.

When we got home she sat on it, fully clothed and said "Do wee wee" then laughed hysterically!

She subsequently played about on it a lot so I put it away in a cupboard as I had not intended starting PT at all, and I didn't want her just to think it was a toy.

Bedtime tonight, I took her nappy off & was about to clean her. She called out "Poppy please, wee wee" so I thought what the hell, & got it out. She sat herself on it, looked me straight in the eye, and did a wee

Where do I go from here if this wasn't just a fluke??
I work full-time & she spends most of the week with CM (who, TBH is prob much better at this than me!). Do we keep in her nappies and use the potty when possible/when she asks for it?

Don't know how to continue. Any ideas please??

i'd try taking her out of nappies completely and seeing how you go,
if she's ready then she's ready.

I would follow her lead. If she asks for it, use it & praise her - but don't worry about it.

Ask the CM if she is willing to assist yet? You may be lucky. DD was fully out of day nappies by 21 months.

I haven't spoken to CM yet, DH will see her tomorrow but I know she'll be happy to assist...she is fab!
If DD goes out of nappies how do you actually do it, from a practical point of view? I mean, just let her wee and mop her up if she hasn't asked for the potty? And should she still have a nappy at night?

Also, what happens if you go out somewhere, say shopping in town.... (visions of weeing in middle of M&S gastrofood aisle!!)

I feel completely dense about this...it's the first thing since she was born that I haven't at least had some sort of idea of what I wanted to do and how!

i would let her go around in just a dress, no pants or trousers or anything like that beucase to start with they don't have that5 much warning that it's coming.

then yeah, just go with the flow. I would maybe ask if she needs a wee now and then if she hasn't been for a while. but if she is ready then you'll prob find that she does tell you when she needs to go.

it's best IME if you can do it when you know you don't need to go out anywhere. as I say, they don't get much warning, so if you can stay in for a week or so then all the better!

and yes, stick with nappy at night for the timebeing

Oh well, it might just have to be up to CM to see her thru the really wet times!

Thanks for all advice... now here goes!

DD potty trained at 19 months - it was her choice

you can get cloth training pants for out and about at first, so don't have to mop a puddle, just change clothes! We used ones from Boots, only got 3. Potette also good for extra confidence! Good luck! DS was also 19 mths, was fairly easy as he was still fairly compliant at this age!!
