Day 2 should I continue?

sorry it’s a long one:
I’m on day 2 of potty training my 2.5yr old. Day one we stayed at home and had 2 wees in the potty (I sat him on at the right times) and 2 poo accidents, 1 wee accident.
Today I had to drop him off at nursery for 2 hours and whilst he was there had a wee accident and then finished the wee on potty and had just pooed as I picked him up. At home he starts a wee then realises he’s doing it, stops and tells me then finishes on the potty.
will the realisation of needing a wee come with time or am I starting too early?
He has very good communication and understanding skills so can tell people when he needs to go but don’t think the realisation has clicked just yet.
He is quite happy about wearing pants and the potty so was going to carry on but nursery have expressed their worry he is not ready as he had 2 accidents whilst he was there today.
To be fair I didn’t expect him to have any success at nursery yet I just had an unavoidable appointment I needed to go to and didn’t want to confuse him by going by back to pull ups which I did explain.
To be honest I thought it was going quite well and this many accidents were normal but now I’m not sure. Is this normal or should I quit now before it goes too far?
Nursery have said previously that when he is ready there shouldn’t be accidents at nursery or very rare so thinking maybe I’m a bit naive thinking it’s normal to have a lot 🤷‍♀️
Doesn’t help that we are out for a few hours tomorrow but I am prepared with plenty of spare clothes, travel potty and waterproof cover on the pushchair.

I’d wait until you have several days in a row you can stay at home. It sounds like he is ready, but going out is tricky and you can’t expect the nursery to do it.

Totally get it’s not ideal however we chose to start yesterday as I have 3 days off in a row, the appointment today was unavoidable and I couldn’t take him with me.
My plan was do as much as we can these 3 days then he’s in nursery 2 days then we have another 3 days at home.
Not ideal I know but I don’t have any annual leave left to book.
Also should mention I work at his nursery so Thursday and Friday he will be with me.

He is ready, you just need to be consistent at home for at least 3 days before he may be consistent elsewhere. I find it bonkers that nursery suggested he isn't ready based on your situation - we did 4 days at home and he still had multiple nursery accidents for a week until he properly got it.

@Petrie999 thank you we will persevere and I will try to make tomorrows outing as short as possible and wait until he has used the potty before leaving.
Did the accidents whilst out/at nursery set them back at home at all?

Crack on. 2.5yrs old is old enough.
