Strategies for potty training 2 year old

DS just turned two and I'm considering giving potty training a go. We left it late with DC1 for various reasons, she was 3 when we started, and it was hard work, she was very very resistant and took ages to get there. I'm hoping starting early with DS will be easier. But I have no idea how to start. I'm so confused by all the conflicting advice around potty training 😩 He has shown interest in the potty and will ask to sit on it before he needs a poo but doesn't sit long enough to actually do the poo in the potty. He usually does it in his nappy about half an hour later. Any advice on how to approach it would be much appreciated! I can't really take a block of time off work to do it, so we only will have a run of 4 days to start, which makes it harder.

Does he know when he's doing a poo e.g. does he go and hide? Does he ask to be changed after? Does he understand/respond to rewards/bribery? Is he generally compliant?

You don't want to wait too long, but equally you don't want to start too early when they're not ready. I find boys generally need a bit longer than girls. Unless he's showing great signs of readiness I'd probably wait until he's closer to 2.5, at some point during the summer maybe. It's easier when the weather is better anyway.

Thanks for replying @NuffSaidSam. He doesn't go and hide but he sometimes tells me before and asks for the potty so he must know he needs to go. But as I said he usually then poos in his nappy a little while later.

His speech and understanding is pretty good for his age but I'm not sure how he'd respond to rewards.

Maybe will try to encourage potty use for now but keep nappies, and then give it a proper go in a few months in the summer.
