How to tackle potty training especially with Carpet

Just looking for some advise on potty training a 2 year old boy especially with carpet!

My little boy is almost 2 and I am beyond fed up of the constant battle when it comes to doing his nappy as he hates having it cleaned and hates having it put back on!

I want to start pottt training him once the weather warms up so I am hoping people can give me their best tips and advice!

I have seen the upairy pants which people have said are good but do they actually help?

Also if anyone has done potty training with carpet I would love to know how you coped. I really don't want to have to change to a different floor especially as we will have a new baby as well and my 2 year old is very accident prone so I prefer the soft carpet and its a bit warmer in my freezing cold house. But equally I dont want it to smell of wee.

I don't have a downstairs toilet so we will be using a potty in the living room but at the moment he prefers to use it as a toy!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Can you buy a big industrial style mat to put the potty on in the kitchen, or lay down a big oilcloth so the potty area can be wiped and sanitised after little accidents?

Yeah I can put something down in the living room where to potty goes for any accidents.

Its more I have seen a lot of suggestions online about leaving them naked initially but that just resulted in wee everywhere which wasnt ideal!

But if I go for more of a pants approach qe can just remove trousers for nappy/toilet time which will be easier.

He doesn't sound ready to potty train. I'd recommend waiting until he's showing all of the signs that he's ready (telling you he's had a poo, pulling at the nappy when it's wet, staying dry for a few hours, etc). The resisting getting changed doesn't sound like a sign to me. If you want to protect your carpets then I'd wait, I potty trained my son just after he turned 3 and he showed all the signs of being ready. He had a few accidents but only 1 or 2 on the carpet and he was totally trained within a week :)

For nappy changes have you tried a stand up change? Not need to lie on a cold changing mat. Could also warm the wipes in your hand if they're cold.

He does pull ar his nappy when its wet, he can stay dry for a few hours dependong on how much he drinks (he drinks a awful lot). He doesnt tell me before he poos but he will often tell me after.

I'm not sure i can imagine waiting until 3. Hes hard for me to hold down currently and hes not quite 2. Hes also in a size 8 nappy already so I do worry about him outgrowing them.

We try stand up changes but he just runs or flails around so I have to lay him down most of the time. Same with getting dressed.

Thank you for the advise though its something to think about.
