Were your Dc's in disposable or reusables and what age were they toilet trained?

As the title says really. My dd was in reusables and day dry at 18 months.
Ds is currently in disposables and I'm thinking of changing to reusables at one year old to help with toilet training, as I believe it helps.
What are your experiences please?

Both disposables and dry before 2.5 years.

Chocoholic900 · 19/10/2025 19:45

Both disposables, dry at 23 & 21 months old.

BunnyRuddington · 19/10/2025 20:31

DC1 reuseables and dry day and night at just over 2.

DD is more complicated as they are ND. Started off in reusables then went to disposables. When we were potty training and she wasn’t getting it we moved back to reusables and she was dry within 2 weeks, age 3.

Cloth nappies.

dry at 24m
dry at 26m
dry at 20m

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 19/10/2025 20:34

Both reusables, both day dry around 20 months, and night dry by 2.5y

FurForksSake · 19/10/2025 20:34

Tried reusable but couldn’t make them work with a child with severe eczema. We tried several designs and methods of cleaning.

so two kids both in disposable. Boys. Both done by 30 months.

ShenandoahRiver · 19/10/2025 20:41

Disposables. Fully toilet trained day and night at 2 and 9 months.

maras2 · 19/10/2025 21:05

DD born 1975 Terry nappies, dry at 12 months.
DS born 1982 Disposables, dry at 18 months.
Ahh, such a long time ago and seen through rose tinted specs.
Best wishes to all mums potty/toilet training, it's not easy but you'll get there. Mx.

SouthLondonMum22 · 19/10/2025 21:10

Disposables and potty trained at 18 months.

TheProvincialLady · 19/10/2025 21:13

Both in cloth and both dry at 2.5 but could have been sooner if other circumstances had been more favourable (eg not being heavily pregnant and ill)

ButtonMushrooms · 19/10/2025 21:17

All in disposables.
DS1 2y 3m
DD 2y 2m
DS2 2y 8m

Digdongdoo · 19/10/2025 21:19

3 boys - 1 mostly naked in the tropics, 1 in cloth, 1 in disposables. All trained between 20 and 26 months. Made no significant difference ime.

dementedpixie · 19/10/2025 21:23

Disposables
Dd 2½
Ds 2

Trej85 · 19/10/2025 21:23

Disposables. 2 + 2 months. I reckon she was ready at around 2 but I had a newborn.

scaredfriend · 19/10/2025 21:29

Reusables. DC1 (girl) - 27 months by day and by night about 6 weeks later. DC2 (boy) - 24 months by day and 27 months by night.

Wbeezer · 19/10/2025 21:30

Ds1 cloth dry day and night 22 months.
DS2 cloth dry day and night by three ( but he has autism)
DS2 mix of cloth and disposable can’t remember exactly but think about 2 and a half!
timings partly due to waiting for summer.

mathanxiety · 19/10/2025 21:47

All disposables and all between 2 and 2.5, day and night.

QuaintPanda · 19/10/2025 21:56

Disposables. Dry two weeks before his third birthday. I was convinced he could do it earlier, but was unsuccessful. I then spoke to him about it and he told me he didn’t need to be toilet trained as me, DH and his childminder changed his nappy whenever he wanted.

He was due to start Kindergarten, where they ask for kids to be dry. I told him Kindergarten didn’t have anyone to change his nappy. He switched to pants the next day and never had a daytime accident.

He was fully dry at night 2 months later.

Mine is 2 3/4 and still in nappies and wets them. Has only used the potty a few times.

Thejackinthebox · 19/10/2025 22:05

Reusable cloth nappies and they were DD (19 months), DS (21 months) and DS (22 months).

I did also do the old fashioned thing of popping them on the potty when I could see them pooping from when they were 6 months old or so and then putting them on the potty when first waking up from naps etc so they were always used to sitting on the potty and it wasn’t this big thing that I expected them to learn in 3 days flat that was completely foreign to them.

I recently noticed that ERIC the children’s bladder and bowel charity advise to do this though so maybe the old fashioned ways still work.

DC1 reusables, potty trained by 2 for day but wasn’t dry at night until close to 5.

DC2 disposables, not potty trained fully yet at 2.5. Much much harder than DC1 who got it in less than a week.

No idea if coincidence or not.
