My almost 16mo is showing some signs of being ready to potty train, but I worry he’s too young to actually grasp the concept.
hHas anyone potty trained at this point, how did you explain it to them or how did day one of potty training look for you.

PT two of my own and two grandchildren at 15-18 mths.
If they walk well and talk well, they will understand.
On day 1 I’d be happy with 2-3 pee’s in the potty/toilet or outdoors.

I've started at 18 months and been successful, but not before then. That's not to say it's not possible, but I've just not had any personal experience starting before then :)
I followed my friends advice who has potty trained lots of little ones early, and she does it more gradually, doesn't use the 3 day method, if you google the 'potty pros academy' I'm sure it'll come up!

Thanks I’ll have a look. Not sure if going into winter and it being a bit colder is the ideal time but I don’t want to ignore signs of readiness either

I don't think it matters so much about the time of year, yes it might be handy to potty train during summer because if they are bare bottom it's not such a big deal, but likewise wouldn't just wait until summer to potty train. Think it's one of those things that just has to start when the time is right, summer or not 😄

Depends what you call “potty trained”, at 16
months it is likely to mean being able to sit on a potty and wee in it and if you put them on the potty regularly they could be out of nappies during the day.
This is what older people call potty trained when they say theirs were out of nappies at 15 months etc, pretty much relies on having Mum at home watching the child and putting them on the potty. I call that “out of nappies” rather than potty trained.

They’re less likely to actually take themselves to the potty independently and will need help with clothes etc.
In my opinion a child is not potty trained until
they are going to the potty/toilet independently and unprompted most of the time.

At 16 months be prepared for possible regression too when they start refusing to sit on the potty.

Up to you really if you want to try there’s no harm in it.

No method, bare bottoms and a couple potties, plus step stool to reach the toilet. Lots of reminders, lots of praise and lots of watching

DS was potty trained at 18 months which included taking himself to the potty independently and pulling his trousers/underpants up and down himself.

Twin DD's are 16 months and I will train them at 18 months too. I'd wait until 18 months so he at least might be able to manage pulling trousers/underpants up and down by himself.
