Toddler boy playing with bits- wetting the bed

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone has any advice-

Our 2.5yr old has been day time potty trained for about 5 weeks now. He's done really well and took to it fairly easily. He still wears a nappy for naps and over night. However, we are having an issue with him wetting the bed. Almost every time he sleeps, he fiddles with his bits and pulls them completely out of his nappy, he then ends up wetting the bed. We've tried normal, elastic waste and pull up nappies. We've put him in onesies, full outfits, zip ups and even PJ trousers over the top to try and limit his access but he always manages to find a way into his nappy.

Does anyone know of any other options on wise? I'm not sure what to do!

Maybe he’s getting the urge too wee when he’s asleep and that’s how he manages it. Maybe the nappy is becoming a hindrance to him. As he’s wetting the bed anyway while wearing a nappy I’d be tempted to leave it off.

Is he in a bed? I’d have the potty in his room for quick access and he might get the hang of it. I did that with my son at that age and it worked well.

In all honesty it was my Mum who suggested it. I was dubious but she reckoned it was confusing to be pretty much trained and then have a nappy back on to sleep.

Thanks so much for your reply. I think this is a great shout. I'd thought about it but wasn't sure. But we're going to give it a go tonight. To be honest there's nothing to lose anyway because worst case scenario he wets the bed... Which he's doing anyway!

Also if he’s good at going back to sleep, you could always carry him to the bathroom for a sleepy wee when you go to bed.

Good luck. Stick with it for a few nights and hopefully it’ll all fall in to place for him 🤞
