Constipation - Movicol

My 2.5-year-old was severely constipated last Friday and was prescribed Movicol—4 sachets a day until she had a blowout, which happened Sunday. Since then, we’ve been giving 1 sachet daily with the following stool diary (Bristol chart):
• Wed 2 July: 2x type 7
• Thurs 3 July: Skid marks, small type 6
• Fri 4 July: Skid marks, 2x type 6
• Sat 5 July: 3x type 5
• Sun 6 July: 1x type 3 (small)

She’s still afraid to poo, saying “sore, sore, sore” and squealing briefly a few times a day. We were about to start potty training as she was showing readiness, but now we’re unsure how to proceed.

Has anyone got any advice?

Don't start potty training until you've got the constipation under control, which isn't yet. Sounds like she needs a higher maintenance dose.

I agree with leaving potty training until this is sorted. It sounds like she could be suffering from overflow which means she is still constipated.

Have a read of the ERIC website and speek to the GP again.

It’s so difficult because she is having ‘normal’ poos so I’m confused as to how this could still be overflow?

Don’t start potty training when she’s constipated (which it sounds like she still is). Have a look at the ERIC website and read about their disimpaction regime. Then speak with your GP and complete this, although note getting to ‘rusty tea’’ stage isn’t always necessary - you just need to be confident they are fully cleared. Then work out her maintenance dose and get her settled on this for a few weeks before contemplating potty training. She shouldn’t be complaining of pain/discomfort. She is almost certainly still constipated.

What you’ve written above isn’t ’normal poo’ and she’s complaining of pain. She’s almost certainly constipated.

She might just have pain from passing a large stool, kept going with the maintenance dose and give her a bit longer to heal.

One blowout probably doesn’t mean she’s clear. To be Frank when DD was constipated and we were put on movicol, when it started properly moving, she was doing very large poos for a while. If it’s impacted it’s going to be a solid mass.
Im guessing she is still constipated and you’ve just had loose overflow. You need to up the movicol and keep it going for a while yet

Edited

It seems like she’s more scared of it than actual pain when she was fully constipated last Friday and prior to the blowout you could tell she was in agony

She also had blowouts Monday and Tuesday (type 7 3x a day)

This is my thinking

Could you take in to the docs for someone to feel her stomach. I do remember taking DD to the docs after I thought she was clear early on and she was still very constipated.
Just don’t underestimate how much the body can hold on to.

She has nursery tomorrow and Tuesday I’m going to see how she is there and then call the GP again on Wednesday I think
