Potty training without staying at home all day!

Hi all, I am about to start potty training with my DD who is 21 months, she will be two at the end of July. She is very keen and always removing the nappy so it seems logical to go for it.
However I have an active dog who needs walks and my husband works very long hours so we will need to leave the house, what do you do in the early stages? Put a nappy back on? Wild wees? Take the travel potty and ask them to sit on it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We didn’t do the whole staying at home thing either, I live in a garden less flat and we would have gone mad. Just took plenty of spare clothes and a potty out with us. Mine was a bit older though so it really depends on how well they’re able to communicate their needs. We had few accidents because my son could just tell us if he needed to go and we’d whip the potty out/run like the wind to a loo.

I wished I hadn’t bothered with the whole stay at home advice. It meant we ended up potty training much later than ideal because I was waiting for the supposedly perfect time.
Im definitely not an expert but I’d say try to get her to go before you leave, then just take the travel potty (assuming you plan to use a potty and not just go straight to using toilet). They’re a bit bulky but you get used to it.
Good luck!

I stuck pull ups on for when we were out. Yes I suspect he took a little longer to train than if we'd gone cold turkey from nappies to pants always, but it was a better option than either us both going a bit crazy from staying in all week, or having puddles on bus seats!

My Carry Potty - Penguin Travel Potty, Award-Winning Portable Toddler Toilet Seat for Kids to Take Everywhere https://amzn.eu/d/9casLoR

We took this everywhere. The kids stopped needing it after about 6 months but we kept it in the car until the youngest was about 4 just in case she needed the toilet on a journey.

Never put a nappy back on! I just carried a potty around in a bag :-)

We had the old Tommy Tippee folding potty, it went everywhere. It was light, small, and you lined it with bags that were made of disposable nappy like stuff, so just tie up and dispose of at home in the usual way.

I am not carrying a potty around or having him peeing everywhere or staying home, so he’ll train when he’s really, really, really ready for it. Nappies are cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would just try and time it so they’ve had a wee/poo before you leave. I really don’t think putting pull ups on is helpful, i think it just confuses matters. I’d take some spare clothes. But I know others do use pull ups.

Thank you all for the advice, we started yesterday after the afternoon school run, she was nappy free for around four hours with no accidents but she did hold the poo for the nappy.
How do you get around this? Just persistence on not putting the nappy on until nap/ bedtime?
She was upset she needed the poo so I tried bribing her with a square of dark chocolate to use the toilet but to no avail.
She also won’t use the potty only the toilet with the toddler seat on so using the carry potty might be a problem for us.
