My ds is turning 3 at the start of June and is more than capable of potty training I’ve only held off this long until I got time off work. In the house and in the childminders he’s been using the toilet on and off throughout the days. Today I’ve started toilet training officially and he’s having none of it. He’s crying he wants his nappy and trousers back on, he’s been told he can have a sweet if he’s goes to the toilet but so far he’s tried to pee 3/4 times and he hasn’t had to so it feels as if he’s just defeated already because he doesn’t have to go. What can I do to help this as I really wanted to get him done this week as I don’t know when my next week off work will be and I want him to be fully confident for going to nursery

You don't need to take a week off work to potty train and (this is not for your benefit but for others) you've left it late and that makes it harder. If he is already using the potty then I don't see why this is an issue.

Poor child can pick up on your anxiety. When at home or at the childminders have nappy off (but pants and trousers on) and use the toilet. When you go out use a pull up until he's secure in being dry. Children learn nothing by being forced into wetting themselves because they don't have access to a toilet. Offer the loo before you leave the house, then when out in a pull up, when you get somewhere with a toilet take him to the loo and say 'I need the loo, do you?' If he doesn't that's fine, he knows there is a loo and can ask for it if he needs it (and if he doesn't he has a nappy). Offer the loo again before you leave then when you get home pull up off, pants and trousers on. Pull up on for naps, nappy or pull up for overnight. I don't believe in rewards, not sitting in your own piss and excrement is enough of a reward.
