4.5 year old still having wee accidents

hi,

My youngest son is 4.5 and is still having wee accidents. Sometimes full blown ones and sometimes he starts to wee and then takes himself to the toilet (rarely). He does poo on the toilet and always has done so I don't have any concerns here.

Not really sure what to do - looking for some ideas. Thinking of trying a potty training watch to set reminders for him to go to the toilet. I don't think he realises that he is weeing in his pants as I'm confident he understands what he should be doing i.e on the toilet. When he's naked at home or bottom half naked he'll always go to the toilet!

Any advice appreciated!!

Yes, give prompts every so often. also when out and about, cafes etc

Also make the bathroom a tad more interesting for the next few weeks- the novelty factor.

Bath crayons, bath toys, foamy soap, jazzy towels. Not that they are things to play with when he goes to wee, but points of interest to make him seek out going to the bathroom.

It’s not unusual. We have times when we go for example when we wake up, before we go out, when we get in, before lunch etc. works most of the time but still has accidents. Mine started school a week after they turned 4 and I put a full change of clothes in the school bag and many days there was a bag of wet clothes returned. We are just about at the end of accidents now but we still wee at certain points in the day

My nephew used to have a lot of similar accidents around that age. His mum thought it was because he left it too late to go to the toilet because he was afraid he would miss something! We would try to get him to go with one of us or one of the cousins (whoever seemed like the most interesting person at that moment) to reassure him he wasn't missing anything!
