3.5 constant wee accidents - what would you do?

My son potty trained quite well at 2.5. He was reliably dry for around 6 months. But for the last 6 months he had multiple wee accidents every day. Sometimes as many as 5 or 6.

When we ask why he's doing it he says 'I don't know' or 'I didn't feel it'

When we force him to go to the toilet, he will almost always wee. But then may wet himself within 20 minutes.

He does sometimes say 'I need a wee' but mostly just seems to go in his pants.

What would you do?
A) just wait it out - he'll learn to feel the bladder signals eventually
B) put him back in pull ups and try again later (when??)
C) seek medical help - I know there's medication they prescribe for bladder issues

I’d take him to the GP!

C.
If he was reliably dry for 6 months then sth must be going on surely?
When you say dry- was he noticing cues and telling you?

DustyLee123 · 16/03/2025 07:06

I’d be checking for UTI

Yeah we checked that, but no. It's been too long anyway really.

Well that's what I'm thinking, why could he do it before? But then lots of people said they often get lazy and regress after the novelty wears off. But it's a long regression!

Hi nurse here. This sounds concerning. I’d advise making a GP appt asap

Just to add, I did take him to the GP a few months ago and asked them to test him for a UTI. This came back negative, and the GP seemed to think my suggestion of some kind of continence specialise referral was a bit extreme. "He's still so little," he said.

I've also heard that they won't prescribe medication until they're at least 5 so I'm reluctant to start having to take him to lots of appointments if it's just going to be the same old management advice that you can get online or from Eric.
