My 3 1/2 yo granddaughter still isn't potty trained
We have told her repeatedly what the "feeling full" in your tummy is and in all other ways she is a very clever and articulate little girl
She says her body doesn't tell her that she needs to poo or wee, that she never has these feelings and she has no issue wearing a dirty pull up or nappy even though her Mum has tried and told her it's nicer to wear pants and be clean.
Any tips please from anyone who has had this issue
Thank you 😊

What has her Mum tried? Does she want advice?

Do her parents actually want advice? Have they tried anything except telling her it’s nicer to wear pants and confusing references to feeling full in your tummy? From your post it sounds like she hasn’t learned yet, because she hasn’t been taught, because there hasn’t been any real attempt at actual potty training. It’s called training for a reason and it’s a process. No more nappies (except at bedtime). Pick a method, clear the calendar for a week, have cleaning supplies at the ready and stick to it. They don’t know they’ve wet in nappies/pull ups because they’re almost too good! It’s much harder to ignore wet pants. And most 3YOs are resistant to change especially if it’s something that takes time away from playing.

But maybe the parents don’t want to hear it from Grandma! Be careful not to overstep if they haven’t actually asked for help.

She's going or probably already got to a stage where she is able to hold and then wee. It's a natural ability to do this. More than likely will get to a place where she is flooding the pull ups with the wee coming out the sides and parents will be like 'oh the pull ups aren't effective'...that really is the time.

Parents have got to put the work in. It's the fair thing to do for her. It's a big developmental step for the child and may accompany some behavioural challenged because there will be a lot of development going on in her. They can't be afraid of accidents, these need to happen for the child to feel and learn.

Thank you for your input
They have now had 2 days with only 1 accident!
Her reward chart is up and running and she keeps ringing me to tell me she's wearing Bluey pants and is a big girl!
Mum is really on it this time after a harrowing house move so fingers crossed!
Thanks again
