Hey, we are in the middle of the potty training, but we won’t finish before nursery starts. How have dealt with this overlap? We just don’t want the whole training to be redundant.

thank you

You talk to the nursery about it. My DSS was only partially potty trained at nursery and they basically continued the training whilst he was there. They were an excellent nursery though. My little niece still had accidents through reception year. They are used to dealing with kids at all different stages, you won’t be the only ones.

How old is he? Where are you upto with it?

I'd just tell the nursery where you're up to with it and I'd expect them to carry on with what you're doing.

Just tell the. Nursery, dress him in easy clothes and keep doing what you are doing.

The nursery will be just as keen as you are for him to be toilet trained. Expect that there will be some accidents in the busier environment at nursery.

We are in the same boat. In fact, we have stopped it because dd had started withholding.

She will be going in nappies - I think she will get the idea when she sees other children using the loo.

Talk to the nursery about it. As long as he’s in clothes, he’s not resistant to using the potty/toilet there and he has some successes then I’m sure they’ll continue with the training. And pack lots of spare clothes including shoes!

Mine carried on with it at playgroup, I just took a lot of spare pants and trousers and made sure what he was wearing was easy to get off/on in a hurry. They worked with me well.

He did have accidents but a lot of that was down to him being too busy playing to make it to the toilet in time. That carried on through the first couple of terms in reception to be honest, way after he was fully trained.

Stumbled across this just doing a bit of browsing! Can I ask if being at nursery helped? We've had withholding so had to hold back and I'm worried about her starting nursery soon! X

Oh, yes. She’s potty trained now.

Nursery did help. They advised us to take her to the health centre who suggested that we leave a window around the start of nursery.

At Christmas time, dh said to her, ‘Do other children wear nappies at nursery?’
She answered, ‘I hate nappies’ and then started using the toilet. No accidents. Just a choice on her part in the end. Probably inspired by noticing that others were not wearing nappies.
