Cleaning poo

Hi

My LO is toilet trained but I'm struggling to get him to clean his own poo. Any advice would be appreciated!

I also find it hard to get my hand down and clean him when he's on the child toilet seat as there's literally no hand space behind... how do parents tackle both issues please..

What do you mean? Clean the toilet or clean himself?

BatFaceGrrrll · 17/08/2024 22:55

If hes under 5, then its your job to clean him up whilst building up to him eventually doing it himself - and just get him to hop off the seat to do it

God, I've typed the above out and realised that you're probably another poo weirdo

That stops me feeling guilty. As that's what I'm currently doing.

If you can’t get your hand in the gap where the seat is then get him to get off and bend over a bit.

I thought everyone just got their toddler to take a step forward and then wiped their bottom for them? No-one does it while they are still actually on the toilet do they?

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 17/08/2024 23:02

How old is he?

When they're too little they just can't reach.

As for you doing it - just get them to get off the toilet and stand.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 17/08/2024 23:03

It's a process, to start you hop him down from toilet & clean, then show how to wipe himself & check after - will be pretty rubbish to start but get better with practice.

I usually managed to get mine to lean right the way forward over my left arm (so they didn't faceplant the floor) which gave me plenty space to wipe them with my right while they were still sitting on the toilet. There's not always space to have them hopping off and leaning forward while you reach round the back of them, especially in public toilets, plus I like to teach them to stay seated while they wipe.

DD is 5 now so doing it herself pretty much but in early stages of training, got her to get off the toilet, then 'touch your toes' makes it quick and easy to wipe then done.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/08/2024 23:13

Mine gets off the toilet and then I tell him to bend over and touch his toes so I can wipe him. He's 3.

Thank you for a helpful reply:)

Similar to @elrider , we did leaning forward and hugging my leg, definitely easier to keep them seated on the toilet in small public toilets (even more so if you've got a second child in there with you).
