Toddler not well in middle of potty training

We started potty training Sunday and my little boy was doing so so well! By day 3 (yesterday) we'd even ventured out the house for the afternoon and he did have one accident but also used the potty twice in public. He even woke up Tuesday after a 12 hour sleep with a bone dry nappy and did a big wee on the toilet.
Last night and today he's been really poorly with a temp over 40, been to drs and he's got tonsillitis. He's usually very energetic but has mainly been lying around and sleeping. Obviously I've not pushed the potty training but left the potty there but kept a nappy on.
He woke up from a sleep very startled and said he needs a wee in the potty! But he'd already done in.
My priority is getting him better and making sure he gets rest but my question is when he is ok would you continue almost where you left off? Or wait a few weeks to restart ??
I have told him nappies can stay on because he is poorly and nappies are for sleep too.

Your poor little baby. It's so awful when they're sick. I wouldn't worry at all, and when he's feeling better, hopefully within a couple of days, talk to him about using the potty again. I wouldn't wait weeks, personally. He's done brilliantly so far, I'm sure he'll do brilliantly again.

I think saying what you’ve said is totally fine. Poor wee soul, hope he is better soon.

So just an update. He woke up much brighter today (still not eating and not fully well). But he asked to use pants!! So I've gone with his lead. He also slept over 12 hours and had a dry nappy when he woke up. He did a big wee on the toilet.
I didn't realise they can be dry in the night so soon? Will this most likely regress?

It's the worst isn't it! I've taken some annual leave off work so I can cuddle him back to health. He always goes so slim when he's poorly as he doesn't eat x

Poor thing such bad timing! I think you've done the right thing though to go with his lead. I would continue where you left off now that he's a bit better.

I found with both my DDs that as soon as they were dry in the day they were dry at night too, we used pull ups at night for a little while just in case but when they were dry every morning we stopped.
They were 2.5 and just turned 3

We had a successful day. Zero accidents and used potty and toilet about 11 times altogether. He is now telling me when he needs to go and taking himself off to do his wee.
I feel like sometimes he's going and squeezing a small wee out. Is that normal? He can hold his bladder hours I know that because he has before .
Is it just him getting used to the sensation.
Very proud of how well he's taken to it.
