We have started potty training our 3 year old boy.
(he was 3 in June) he has been slow on his speech but is so much better. (Why we have waiting to potty train him.
anyway.

we have been doing it for 5/6 days and at home he has around 2-3 accidents a day but other then that we think he is doing really well. Has stayed with my dad and has done really well with my dad as well.
today he has gone to nursery and had 6 accidents and at pick up have said they would want him back in pull-ups.
I feel so deflated and down about it.
do you think he needs to go back into pull ups or should we carry on.

part of me just wants to cry and the other part is cross. He has been doing it less than a week and at home he’s been doing well. 1 day at nursery and they want him back in pull ups.

help any tips or help much appreciated.

Can you get details of the nursery day/ timetable. You can then replicate that at home for meal/ snack times and activity time so that toilet trips can be fitted in at the same point in the day at home as they would be at nursery. Nursery can't change their routine to accommodate toilet training with so many trips to the toilet needed so maybe this way around would help in the short term.

It shouldn't need to be said but can you insist that they don't give him a drink before any nap time at nursery to make it a bit easier for him to nap without needing to go.

Also if they know what is his normal signal for needing a wee, if there is one, then they can look out for it. He may not know what this is himself but you might have noticed it.

Have a chat with your child, if you haven't already, so that they are know it's ok to ask their nursery carer when they need to go to the loo so they can go.

Nursery should be able to cope with this process without having to revert to going back to pull ups in my view but it can be a very support-intensive process at the beginning which maybe a staffing issue. If they are insistent he goes back into pull ups then they need to agree a time that suits them for potty training as it is something he needs to learn at some point.

My little ones the other way round and is perfect at nursery, goes in the loo happily and then deliberately wees himself at home. He's admitted he does it for attention which is infuriating.
So sorry no advice but some solidarity! Keep going, it can't last forever surely ..

We've just been through this issue too. Hold on in there, he'll get used to their potty/toilets soon. It's all about perseverance. My son was holding it in , refused to go to the toilet at nursery for two weeks running. They ended up putting nappies on him and it was frustrating because he did prefer having a nappy on. But next day we went back to our routine at home (no nappies) This week he went to the toilet in nursery each time, no problem. Fingers crossed your ds will be the same soon.
