Hello! We started potty training my just turned 2 ds today. We stayed in and did bare bum, and he was very happy to sit on the potty (he has seen other children at nursery do this and tries to take his nappy off and sit on it there) and we just kept putting him on every so often for a few mins and reading books.

He went about 5 times this afternoon but only on the carpet, not in the potty. I tried to see signs but there didnt seem to be any yet. Whenever he went I tried to take him to potty but wasn't fast enough, so just said 'no problem, next time on the potty'. By the last wee he ran over to me but again was just on the carpet.

Does this all sound like he is ready and if we carry on he is likely to understand? He is my first so not really sure what to expect! He goes to nursery two days so will still have to wear a nappy those days for the time being, but am hoping to take time off work in a few weeks if it seems like he needs it.

We did this for 2 days, she got last half of a wee (prompted), a poo (independent), and attempted another poo (independent) on the toilet (missed but only because potty was too close to sofa). She never seemed to know when she was weeing.

Decided to stop but since then she's told me she needed the potty before peeing then done a poo and wee today for nanny on the toilet so I might try again.

Take a full week off week. Make it your mission to nail it. You're only focusing on daytime dry, not night time dry.

Literally don't leave the house at all for at least the first 5 days. When you do, put a puppy pad on the buggy seat and take one of the wee bottles out with you (I found doing my son easier than my daughter) And by, don't leave the house, I mean don't leave the one designated room! That way, you won't really have any accidents, as if he starts to wee you race to him, pick him up and finish the wee off on the potty. Loads of praise. Make it fun. I remember doing loads of art and craft that week. Honestly easier than starting and stopping it. Just crack on and get it done.

I can't remember the exact book I followed, but it was a potty training in a week one. Brilliant book. Both of mine potty trained fully in the day by 18months - son is autistic and still managed it. Nightime took longer but that's a whole different question!

I did it much more casually. Kept nappies on but offered the potty before and after sleep and meals and at regular intervals. We were done by 2 years 3 months.
