Wee holding

I’m going to loose the plot!
DD asked me to potty train her . She wanted big girl knickers threw her nappy at me and nursery confirmed she is basically desperate for it. She’s 2 years 6 months.has older bro so I’ve done this before.

we on day 4.

she knows when she needs the wee she runs to the loo and says wee coming out (it often is a small bit on pants) but then runs away. This goes on for 2 hours or so she holds it whole time. If I pop her on loo she gets upset so I don’t do that. Then she just keeps leaking her wee until close to accident and does it. But she only lefts half out! Coz then at after it starts again and then she finally does it all. Frankly exhausting!

day 1 I did popping on the loo every 30 mins and we had wees and even poos on it . Day 2 she got upset with me popping her on so I just left her to it and this habit of wee holding started. But wasn’t as bad as today would eventually sit on and do them and also did poos in them

shes worked out how to hold her wee - great. Poos have all been in toilet - great.(my son took ages and held his poo till bedtime nappy for months)

but I’m exhausted by the running to and away from loo and her saying she needs it and not going on. And then mini were stains all over house or in knickers

I’ve now removed pants. I’m doing smartie for a wee and a poo in potty . And we do a little dance every wee too and praise her.

accidents we just go - we will try get it in toilet or potty next time

I’m taking the potty around the house wherever we go

any other advice?

Ive got books and toys by loo too so as to keep it not that boring

she can literally hold it for hours even on the potty for 5 mins tv on! Get up and then start wetting her knickers

I’ve tried getting her to blow but that doesn’t release it either

she’s doesn’t sound ready to me

Smartmove · 23/07/2024 10:05

She won’t let me put her nappy back on her though she also got cross at me when I put it on at bedtime and I had to convince her why at bedtime she needs it. She’s very stubborn!

what makes u think she’s not ready?

im in zero rush to do this. And wanted to wait till Sept when I had a few free days but she was getting upset when I put nappies on and told me to potty train her so I took her lead. Plus she’s kinda the right age too (it’s not like she’s asking me at 18 months)

your OP

When they’re ready, there’s far less drama than all this

courgettes4eva · 23/07/2024 10:06

specifically this

I’m taking the potty around the house wherever we go

Smartmove · 23/07/2024 10:10

@courgettes4eva i can stop that? My understanding and how I did my DS was first few days took the potty around and then slowly took it away. She will run to the proper toilet 90 percent of the time saying

i I need the wee

but then runs away

more than happy to throw the potty away. It’s gross anyway I’m quite happy she’s keen to use proper loo

personally i’d abort for a few weeks
and the. start again fresh in 3 weeks

Our DD did this and it was so exhausting. We ended up back in nappies for a month as we were going on holiday, but also because we were worried she would do herself an injury holding it in for so long! When we tried again a month later we deliberately made zero fuss to the point of not mentioning the potty or wees at all, and she got it that time. Best of luck!

It's still very early days so I wouldn't give up just yet. She sounds ready if she can hold it, she just needs to learn to 'go' properly. Focus on the reward element. Maybe a sticker chart - a proper wee in the toilet gets a sticker, dry pants between toilet trips is another sticker etc. Maybe x number of stickers means she can choose a small prize. It sounds like she's bright enough to understand. Maybe also explain that if she can't do her wees in the toilet then she'll have to go back to wearing nappies. But it's only day 4, I don't think you need to worry just yet.

She’s in nursery next 2 days

ive spoken to them and will decide on Friday if I abort and do it when I had planned end of August. Or keep going.

had a huge accident on floor after a sizeable wee on the toilet!

Woken from nap-dry nappy.
told me she needs a wee
walked to loo
got off loo
went back to loo
tried to come off but managed to convince her to stay whilst I got her smartie for a wee
wee completed

we did a dance and a smartie after

2 mins later
saying she needs it again. - suspect she didn’t fully empty

Update

all going well! She was ready but just took a few days: weeing and pooing in toilet and she’s asking to go. I’m not needing to prompt her much. Obv still a few minor mishaps but really she’s doing fab.

Fab news. It's perfectly usual to take a bit of time to learn the different signals her body is giving her etc. It sounds like she's making great progress. Be prepared for some set-backs along the way- again all quite normal (and they may not happen at all).

Smartmove · 27/07/2024 20:15

Yep @westcountrywoman
i think I was just confused how to tackle her
“ no no no “
constantly when asked to sit in loo when I knew she was bursting. was exhausting going back and forth to the loo too knowing she wanted it but then wouldn’t sit

i decided to hugely back off and let her tell me and not ask as much.

worked a treat. My son was the complete opposite and used to comply with everything I suggested or asked!

shes stubborn and has her own mind!

we even went out for the morning today and on the walk home she asked for the wee and did it in a portable potty ( she did one 3 hours before that so was good holding!).

totally expecting lots of accidents for days and months after but feel we over the big hurdle and made huge progress this last few days

Update
been away had long car journey and asked for loo - no accidents for over ten days. Aware she may have them but just wanted to let other people know that a difficult day potty training doesn’t mean they not ready. It can just be a hurdle u need to jump over I’m glad I persisted - she was totally ready I just had to change my approach

First day back is hard. I should end on 1100 and 50g carbs
20 min pelaton and 15 mins weights done. 5000 steps.

I did have some dark choc after lunch which is annoying and has meant I need to scale back dinner to be in calories!
